Reflection 1/03/2019 looking at alternator and learning the four strokes.

Today Luca brought in an alternator for us to look at and maybe take apart. but the alternator had been sitting for 20 years and we were unable to start taking it apart. We also looked at a four stroke engine that had been opened so you could look at it. You could see the piston go up and down and the valves open and close. We you could also see the flywheel and how a spark plug would get it's electricity. We also learnt the four strokes of a four stroke engine. The intake stroke, the compression stroke, the power stroke and the exhaust stroke. We also learnt how a spark plug gets it's electricity. We also looked at a two stroke engine for interest. Luca also accidentally took a screw out of the pulley starter and a coil fell out so we had to spend some time trying to get that back in it. I also filmed while Luca span the crankshaft to show how the piston moved up and down. I also filmed the valves going up and down. Next week we are going to continue working on the push lawn mower engine.
