Today we took off the valves and springs. Mr Venter did the first one and then we spent about ten to fifteen minutes doing that we then cleaned the engine. We also took some more photos and added some things onto the manual and process.

10/04/2019 Working on the manual
Today we went to the woodwork room to take photos and measure screws and bolts. Once we had done that we went back to class and started working on the manual. We also worked on the engine disassembly manual and uploaded photos and wrote a small blurb on what was happening. The things we added onto the manual include the oil transfer cover, the valve spring cover, the crank case cover, the piston, the cam shaft and the crank shaft.

5/04/2019 taking the piston out
Today we took off the crank shaft gear. We also took off the camshaft and crankshaft and cam followers. After that we loosened the connecting rod and were ready to take the piston out. But there was a fire drill and we had to wait until after lunch. After lunch we attempted to take the piston out but the piston had smoothed the inside of the cylinder and the top had made a ridge and we were really struggling to get it out. We tried using a screwdriver, a hammer, and pliers but it wasn't working. So Mr Venter just knocked it out using brute force. We also spent some time cleaning the piston and other parts. We only have the intake and exhaust valves left to remove.

3/04/2019 opening the engine block
Today we removed seven screws to get into the engine block. We took lots of photos of the inside of the engine. It was full of oil so we spent some time cleaning oil out of the engine. We also cleaned the oil off the crank cover case. We also took off the oil thrower. it makes oil travel around the engine block. It flicks it around the engine. We cleaned that and made sure it was not damaged. The gasket broke but we will jut place it back in place once we get to rebuilding it. We also learnt that when the engine is on the power stroke the mark on the camshaft and the crankshaft have to be at the same place.
