Peer Support Reflection 12/03/2021

 Peer Support Reflection 2021

This was my first time doing peer support, and so far it has been going well. It has been nice to work with a group of students new to the college. Our group is called 'not group one' simply because our group is group number 1. Last week we were set the challenging task of trying to build a type of light house out of newspaper with a working lightbulb. Due to a series of natural disasters, numbers were very light and my group joined with another. So it meant there were two different groups who didn't know each other and had never worked together. It was a challenge to get the light going and on the tower because the battery was so big and heavy. Safe to say our tower didn't work, the moment we let it go it became a pile on the floor. But on a somewhat positive note, our lightbulb was still working it was just lying on the floor. It was a good teambuilding exercise and challenged the year sevens and the leaders.

11/09/2019 - Last day of impact project

Today was our last session of impact project. We will both not be here on Friday. On Sunday we presented our impact project at the open day. We had our science board, which had the engine reassembly process on it, the engine we reassembled, the Stirling engine and the model four-stroke engine. We ran the Stirling engine to show the piston moving up and down. We answered all the questions people had. We also printed the manual and put it in a folder so people could read through it. We also printed our presentation so that people could read about our impact on the community and why we chose this project. Today we made sure we fully finished the process and the manual. We made sure everything was finished and in the right place. We will not be presenting on Friday since we will not be here.

06/09/2019

Today we got our presentation ready for Sunday. We printed our completed presentation slideshow and put it in a folder so people can read through it. We also finished the manual and printed it out and put it in a folder. We did this so that people can read through our manual when the look at our presentation. We also printed out the process and put it on the science board. We brought the engine to school so people can see the reassembled finished product. We also got a model four-stroke engine from the woodwork room that we used the last term. This has a moving piston and we can show people the piston moving up and down. We also got the Stirling engine out so that we can have that running and people can see it working. We have finished everything we wanted. The engine does not start due to a few broken and missing parts. We put the lawnmower engine we reassembled on a stand so the drive shaft can stick through.

04/09/2019 - Wednesday

Today we worked on the engine reassembly process. Over the weekend we almost completely reassembled the engine. We put all the parts on and had none left over except for a few covers which are not needed. We also tested if our engine is working by testing the spark. We unplugged the spark plug and then span the flywheel. When we did the is we got some spark. We will put some oil in the engine. We also got a fuel can and we need to build a stand so when we try to start the engine the driveshaft which is on the bottom of the engine can spin. We also worked on our presentation slideshow which we added things like what we achieved and what challenges we faced. On Friday we are going to start putting things on our science board. We are also going to work and hopefully finish the manual. We are going to put the photos and short descriptions from the engine disassembly manual on the board so people can look at the parts and see what they are and what they do.

30/08/2019

Today we created our presentation slideshow. This has things like the impact on the community, what we have learnt and the challenges we have faced. We also added what we have reassembled to the process and manual. Over the weekend we plan to fully reassemble the manual so next week we can add the photos and information to the manual and process. We also got a science board so we can get it ready for the presentation next Sunday.

28/08/2019 - Wednesday

Today we worked on the engine reassembly process and the manual. We added photos of the parts we have put on the engine. We have put on the flywheel, cylinder head, spark plug and ignition coil on Friday we are going to continue working on the manual and process. We are also going to create our presentation slideshow. We plan to finish the engine over the weekend so we can finish the manual and process and make our presentation board.

23/08/2019

Today we updated the engine reassembly manual and the engine reassembly manual we added the parts that Luca assembled over the weekend. We also measured the RPS and RPM of the Stirling engine that we tested last week Friday. We also added photos of the grease Luca used for the gaskets. We rang Luca's Dad Mike to ask what a part was called o we could write about it in the manual and use the correct name. On Wednesday we are going to create the presentation slideshow ad continue updating the manual and process.
